You’re teaching people that are absolute beginners chords? They don’t even know the names of the strings. You should teach them the names of the strings and how to play a scale so they can get their fingers built up. You seem to be clueless… Your video was not for absolute beginners.

As someone who also teaches guitar to couple students, it never ceases to amaze me how you can take such basic songs and still manage to sneak in great nuggets of intermediate and advanced play into them. I never once thought of Free Fallin as a way to introduce embellishments to someone. Which is stupidly simple because its one of the most loved and known basic rhythms of all time! What better net to tightrope under... than a song you've been humming since you were in diapers. Genius! Keep up the dang good work Andy, you are a national treasure.

Andy, I have spent perhaps 3-5 hours researching different guitar teachers on the Internet to determine if I am an intermediate guitarist after 8 months of playing guitar 2+ hours every day. The answer is "no". I am an advanced beginner. But this video of yours was very important, helpful. In my own mind I have summarized your five key points as FSNSN. 1. F chord. Learn to play the F chord by itself and in songs. Playing the F chord in a song is the objective. 2. Simultaneous. Learn or strive to play your chords simultaneously with your fingers. 3. New songs. Can you learn new songs quickly and play them. 4. Strumming. Determine strums by hearing them. (And yes, studying your strumming course currently.) 5. Notes. Learn the notes at least on the two lower strings. I would add one more determinant of being an intermediate guitarist: Read sheet music and play songs with others. This encompasses all of your 5 points. I'm lucky to live in Chicago, IL USA where the Old Town School of Folk Music has Wednesday jam sessions for 2 hours, for free. Amazing. Last week I jumped into their jam session and was the weakest guitar player among 15 guitarists, ukelele players, harmonica players, etc. Thanks again Andy.
